rettenmeier® expands into the United Kingdom

OUR GROWTH CONTINUES

Rettenmeier Holding AG establishes Rettenmeier UK Ltd. to strengthen its market presence in the United Kingdom

Wilburgstetten/Birmingham, 20 February 2026 – Rettenmeier Holding AG, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of solid wood products for construction, gardening, and industrial applications, is expanding its international presence further. By setting up Rettenmeier UK Ltd., the Group is enhancing its local presence in the UK and improving the quality of its services, logistics performance and supply reliability for its UK customers.

The newly founded subsidiary, headquartered in Birmingham, will manage and coordinate all Rettenmeier Group activities in the UK. In addition to sales operations, this includes local warehousing, logistics and customer service. The new warehouse facility in Warrington will significantly reduce delivery times and improve supply reliability across the country.

The UK is a strategically important market for Rettenmeier, characterised by stable demand for sustainable timber products. In recent years, the Group has substantially expanded its production capacities, including acquiring Europe’s largest sawmill in Plößberg, Germany and developing its new site in Inčukalns, Latvia. These investments have significantly broadened the product portfolio, especially in product categories with a strong demand in the UK.

The establishment of a local warehouse and logistics structure will provide the foundation for Rettenmeier’s expansion in the UK market. It will also enable closer collaboration with B&Q, the largest DIY retailer in the UK and part of the Kingfisher Group, with whom Rettenmeier has collaborated for a number of years.

“The UK is a key growth market for us, with consistent demand for sustainable wood solutions,” says Dr. Stephan Lang, CEO of Rettenmeier Holding AG. “By expanding our production capacities and strengthening strategic partnerships, we have created the basis for further growth. With Rettenmeier UK Ltd., we are now establishing a dedicated strong enterprise that will enable us to serve our customers in the United Kingdom even more directly and efficiently.”

The formation of Rettenmeier UK Ltd. is part of the group's long-term internationalisation strategy. Rettenmeier aims to further consolidate its position as a reliable partner for sustainable timber solutions across Europe, as well as expanding into additional customer segments.

Cartel authorities give their approval: rettenmeier® takes over Europe's largest sawmill

Plößberg/Oberpfalz, 05.03.2025 - The relevant authorities have approved the acquisition of significant parts of the ZIEGLER GROUP by Rettenmeier Holding AG. The closing will take place shortly after the fulfilment of further conditions.

The companies will operate under the name Rettenmeier Holzindustrie Plößberg GmbH. Exceptions are Prechtl GmbH Anlagen- und Maschinenbau and Ruhland Druckluft & Systemtechnik GmbH, which will retain their company names.

With this strategic decision rettenmeier® is setting an example for further sustainable growth and stability. The integration of the new sites makes Rettenmeier the largest sawmill group in Germany. With a total of 2,300 employees in Germany, Latvia and Slovakia, rettenmeier® is one of the three largest wood processing companies in Europe. The group's sawing capacity will increase to 6.2 million cubic metres and pellet production to 465,000 tonnes per year.

In a time of uncertainty, Rettenmeier® is working to strengthen its position in the steadily growing global market for sawn timber and solid wood products. The excellent geographical location of the site and the motivated and highly qualified local team were key factors in the decision.

The sawmill in Plößberg, which will operate under the name rettenmeier® in the future, is the largest sawmill site in Europe with a cutting capacity of 2.4 million cubic metres. In addition, 240,000 tonnes of pellets and around 200,000 cubic metres of planed timber are produced in nearby Pressath.

With this expansion, rettenmeier® is ensuring that it can continue to offer its customers high-grade wood products in the usual quality and with maximum security of supply.

Mr Robert Friedl, who has already been in this position at the Ziegler Group for 4 years, will take over the management of Rettenmeier Holzindustrie Plößberg GmbH.

The Rettenmeier® Group is a leading company in the wood industry with a clear focus on sustainable production, innovation and quality. With several locations in Europe and decades of experience, rettenmeier® offers a wide range of timber products for construction, industry and trade.
